OPRAH, BONO, AMERICAN IDOL - NOW YOU!

This April we have a cool opportunity to help impact people for Christ.  You’ve seen Oprah build a school for girls in Africa, American Idol raised over $70 million for charity and Bono’s on a mission to end poverty.  All great things — but here’s a way for you to give something that will have an eternal value.

The RightNow Campaign is a movement of 20 and 30-somethings trading in our pursuit of the American Dream for a world that desperately needs Christ.

We are calling you to become a Trader!

How Can I Become a Trader?

Come to LeadNow and Fusion ready to Trade!  Pick one of these items to bring to LeadNow or Fusion that will help someone in need.  Bring as much as you can, all of these items will be taken directly from the event to help others in the name of Jesus Christ.

Food For Thought

Life can be tough.  The world can be harsh.  The love of Christ compels us to reflect his light into a dark and hurting world.  Consider for a moment the hurting people that surround you today.

  • John & Lois are married with three children, but neither have a college degree.  They are minimum wage workers with one car, thrift store clothes an impoverished home, and they are barely able to buy groceries after bills are paid.
  • Eugene was doing fine until he got injured and lost his job.  His wife’s teaching salary isn’t covering their family of five and building medical bills.
  • Linda’s husband is gone.  She has two kids with one of them starting college.  She’s working two jobs trying to get a handle of her credit card debt.  She needs help.

These are real people!  Have you ever considered these hard working people struggling day in and out because of life’s hard circumstances? Often these sorts of families don’t go on our radar as people in need because they are not living in a homeless shelter. It’s not until they are completely down and out before we even notice their quiet suffering.

Low income and financially distressed families make up a huge percentage of the average American population. While that reality heavily looms around us, organizations like Harvest Time International in Orlando are providing hope and opportunity through one of their programs called Community Hope Center (CHC). The CHC has served more than 25,000 families since 1999 by supplying food and a variety of house hold goods and hygiene products to families in need. CHC functions as a preventative program to help people from falling below the poverty line or bankruptcy and emergency assistance for those who are in financial crisis and need short-term help. CHC is also a supplement program for the elderly and disabled households on fixed low-income.

This year at LeadNow and Fusion we are partnering up with Harvest Time International to fight the bonds of poverty by asking you to bring a canned or dry good when you arrive at the event.  All items will be donated to Harvest Time at the end of the event, so hit up your pantry and grab a can…or two and we’ll see you at the event!

Socks For the Homeless

the homeless, persons who lack permanent housing. home·less, Having no home or haven. homeless, without nationality or citizenship; "stateless persons"

Close your eyes, shut out what you see. Try for a second to envision yourself homeless: someone lacking permanent housing, having no haven, unfortunate, no nationality or citizenship. No place to go, no identity, no license, no proof of yourself, no social security number, no money, no nothing. It’s hard to do when your reality reflects higher education, two paychecks a month, wearing new clothes, impeccable insurance…how can we relate? We believe it’s by being heart broken.  The current reality is that this world is covered with homeless people. People starving.  People in need.  People who wonder if they will survive the night.

So what can we do? How do we let this soak into the very depths of our heart, where our minds and hearts plead for justice for unjust, where our feet and hands move toward wanting to see change rather than talk about it? You don’t have to start homeless shelters in every major city in the world, not even where you’re from. We just need to let our hearts be broken by this awful reality and move when the chance comes our way.

This year at LeadNow and Fusion you have a chance to join other attendees who will bring socks for the homeless. This small act of kindness is laced with a huge act of heartbreak. These socks will be donated to the Health Care Clinic for the Homeless.  The Homeless Outreach Partnership Effort (H.O.P.E.) team is comprised of three outreach case managers who will pass them out to homeless persons living on the streets and camping in area woods of Orlando. We need men and women’s socks for all sizes.

Don’t be left out, join the movement to push back the darkness and bring socks to LeadNow and Fusion!

What Do I Do Now?
It’s your turn to become a Trader and to act on this opportunity.  Here are a few ideas:

  1. Email this web page to all of your friends.  Let them know that our generation has an actual opportunity to collectively do something!
  2. Get your friends to adopt one of these options and collect an insane amount of socks and canned goods and bring them to LeadNow or Fusion on April 25th.
  3. Get your church group to start a Trader Drive. You can do two things with this – encourage our generation to live beyond ourselves and help those in need by collecting items to bring toNorthland on April 25th.
  4. One church is actually having a contest between classes to see which group can collect the most Socks.  The church is giving the winning class 5 free tickets to Fusion.
  5. Another church is doing a two week drive.  The first weekend is the Socks Weekend.  The second weekend is for collecting Canned Goods. Then they are sending 10 young adults to Fusion to represent the rest of the group and donate the items at the Trade Store.
These are just a few ideas to stimulate some movement.  Do whatever you want.  Just do something.
